Abstract

The ballistic impact of a bullet on thin and thick composites has been studied in this work. Vibration modal analysis was used to ascertain the effect of bullet hole and damage on the change in natural frequency of the laminate. Ultrasound was used to determine the actual extent of damage in the laminate and a quasi-static Finite Element model is employed to determine the development of interlaminar shear stresses and failure in the laminate.
