Mechanical Oscillations in TiNi Under Synchronized Martensite Transformations

Experimentally studied have been oscillations of a rotating pendulum with a TiNi elastic element subjected to periodic heat impulses synchronized with the period of oscillations. This methodology allowed controlling oscillations by stimulating the reverse phase transformation. Conditions for obtaining high damping, support of sustained vibrations, oscillations generation have been established. The observed dependence of the oscillations decrement has been explained with the account of the basic functional mechanical properties of shape memory alloys.
